Dan Yellow Kuhne (b. 1942, Oneida, NY) is an American artist who carried forward the legacy of the Washington Color School. A University of Maryland graduate, he studied with Gene Davis and began exhibiting in the 1970s at venues including the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the University of Maryland. Nicknamed “Dan Yellow” for his favorite color, Kuhne gained early recognition with a 1972 show at Jacob’s Ladder Gallery, followed by a solo exhibition at the Phillips Collection in 1973.
